SAN FRANCISCO
SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
The San Francisco Special Events Committee is a 501(c)(3) organization that plays a crucial role in supporting the Office of Protocol’s civic engagement efforts. The Office of Protocol is often responsible for planning and executing some of the city’s most high-profile events that enhance the cultural fabric of San Francisco. These events not only serve residents but also attract global visitors, reinforcing San Francisco as a vibrant and dynamic place to live, work, and explore.
One key example is the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, one of the largest international events hosted by the city in decades. APEC not only showcased San Francisco on the global stage but also brought significant economic and diplomatic impact, driving tourism and fostering international relationships.
The committee’s efforts extend to supporting major events like the annual Chinese New Year Parade, the Italian Heritage Festival, and the World Series celebrations, all of which reflect the diversity and energy of the community. By collaborating with the Office of Protocol, the committee helps present high-quality, free, and affordable public programs that enrich San Francisco’s artistic vitality and cultural vibrancy. These events ensure that San Francisco remains a city where creativity thrives, cultures connect, and people come together to celebrate its unique spirit.
The committee’s board includes prominent community leaders, ensuring strong guidance and oversight: Thomas Horn (Chair), Maryam Muduroglu, David Shimmon and Janet Lamkin, Board Member.
